The Conqueror - Lebanon
Against all odds, Aaley is standing tall again, trying to forget the tragedy it was part of some 30 years ago. This project in particular is located where an ancient building was devastated by war. It was destroyed and reconstructed several times.
Our concept was thus to recreate this surviving element that represents the true Lebanese spirit. A modern yet subtle approach was used, where the vertical circulation is well divided from the rest as it was the only element for escape back then. Glass windows were used in order for the inhabitants to be able to enjoy the view and relax, forgetting their tragedies.
A salute to their ancestors was made with the use of circular openings in the giant red wall located on the view in order for it not to block it completely, as well as to remind them how they used to peek to the outside world, seeing without being seen.
